The Killer

Saturday night I heard Connor cackling loudly in the den.  We had moved the computer for Olivia and her friends to watch movies on, and Connor was playing a computer game, Huggly Saves the Turtles.  He was supposed to be picking up trash from the river, but instead kept running the canoe into the rocks and logs so the (nice) monster would fall out into the river.  Then he'd cackle and say, "He be dead!"  It was even funnier before I started taping him, but you'll get the general idea.

The Ervin Family (Sung to the tune of "The Addams Family")

I have recently introduced the kids to The Addams Family television show.  It didn't take long for them to start coming up with verses for "The Ervin Family".  Here is our finished product - mostly created by the kids with a little help from mom.

 Chorus
Duh-duh-duh-duh *snap snap*
Duh-duh-duh-duh *snap snap*
Duh-duh-duh-duh, Duh-duh-duh-duh,
Duh-duh-duh-duh *snap snap*

They're clumsy & they're funny,
They're pretty, bright & sunny,
For a trip they're earning money,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

The girls they are so helpful,
The oldest son is hurtful,
The youngest is adorable,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

The house is full of dog hair,
The kids they really don't care,
The mommy thinks it's no fair,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

The daddy is so hairy,
The kids are pretty scary,
The mommy is so weary,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

The Daddy had some skills,
And all the bugs he kills,
He also likes to grill,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

The Mommy is so charming,
Her smiles they are disarming,
Her snores are quite alarming,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

Olivia's so cool,
She really likes to doodle,
She also swims in pools,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

Kelsey is so nice,
She gives the family spice,
She doesn't eat her rice,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

Connor is so busy,
He makes his mommy dizzy,
 He's often in a tizzy,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

Maddox is close to walking,
He isn't really talking,
But he's always crawling,
The Ervin Family

Repeat Chorus

So you should let them feed you,
They promise not to beat you,
But they'd like to meet you,
The Ervin Family.

Repeat Chorus

THE END (Finally!!)

Weird

Why, oh why, do my kids sleep so weird?!

Baking Day

Early in July we had a family meeting.  We decided that we'd really love to go to South Carolina for Thanksgiving.  We haven't been there for a holiday since we moved, but we never seem to have the extra money in our budget.  So, we told the kids that if they would work and earn the money, we could go.

We made a list of the things our family could do, yet nothing seemed to really click until we got the idea of a monthly bake sale.  And so, 10 days ago we had our first one.  We decided to bake from Thursday to Saturday, and these pictures are from Thursday, Day #1.

Before we got started, the kids gathered for a picture.  Maddox kept sticking his tongue out, so finally the kids all stuck their tongues out, too.

The girls' favorite thing to make by far were the strawberry-rhubarb crumbles.  They could get their hands into the crumb topping and go to town!  (Don't worry folks, I made sure they washed their hands first!)

Some people just can't be serious.  Ever.  But we love our little Kelsey-bug!

See what I mean?  This is their first finished crumble!  (Notice the crossed eyes?)

A picture of the "goods" before delivery that evening.

And let this picture serve as proof that my meringues started out gorgeous.  By the time they were delivered in over 100+ heat, however, they had separated and started dripping.  Stinkers.  Despite the fact that they still tasted fabulous, I have to say that I'm thinking we should go for the Lemon Cream Pie next time...
