Bubble Fun

Since we are now officially homeschoolers (like, as in I'm homeschooling all the kids with no definite plans of putting them back in school) we decided that we should start school early this year so we could take off extra time around October when the baby is born.  We started the first Monday in August, and spend somewhere between 2-4 hours a day total getting everything done.  So far we are off to a great start, and have only had a few meltdowns as we've gotten back into the swing of things.

Today Kelsey had a science experiment to do.  We were learning about surface tension and bubbles and what happens when you touch a bubble with a wet straw versus a dry one.  (The dry straw will make it pop, by the way.)  What we have ended up with is hours of bubble fun for all of us!

So here's what you do.  Stir together 1/2 c. dishwashing liquid with 1 quart water and pour it into a shallow pan.  Get a straw, and start blowing bubbles.

To make a really large bubble, dip the tip of the straw just under the surface of the water.  Blowing gently, lift the tip of the straw out of the water and watch the bubble grow.

Next, take the straw carefully out of the large bubble.  Dip it again in the water.

Gently put the wet tip of the straw back through the side of the bubble and blow another bubble inside the large one.  This is so cool and will keep your kids (and even you!) occupied for hours...

And yes, I know I need to cut her bangs.  She and I argue about this regularly.

Were the meltdowns on your side or the kid's side? I bet Connor knows how to read before he's even potty trained. You are my hero. I just couldn't do the home school route. Kiersten starts Seminary on Monday. I feel old.

A little of both, to be quite honest. And ironically, the homeschool routine makes my day much easier in the long run. I LOVE IT!

And Connor is already picking up on a lot! The girls love taking turns "teaching" him. I think he knows the letter "E".

Cool bubbles. Too bad we don't live closer. I could be the girls art teacher.

I'm glad to see you still homeschooling Anita! I still remember some of our conversations in the Camden Library about that. And also I am grateful to you for that one day in May a couple of years ago at the library, you told me I should try looking at Bethesda for preschool. I know it was inspired...the boys have thrived, I was able to get a job last year there and have just amazing experiences all because of that one conversation. I might need some of your homeschooling advice ☺ as we begin this journey. The kids seem to like it...it's only been a week though. Congratulations on your pregnancy!! We got a new computer a few months ago because our other one died and I lost tons of my blogs that I had on my blog reader...so I'm glad you commented on my page so I could "find" you again! Talk to you soon!!
