Nostalgia

I am in SC for a quick trip by myself. My side of the family has a special event going on, and since the whole family couldn't make it together, I got to come alone. It is strange, not traveling with the kids. It's almost relaxing, in fact. With the relaxation has come some time to reflect. I haven't been in SC in almost 18 months, and I have been feeling quite nostalgic as I have seen how some things have changed, and others have stayed the same. I thought I would share a few of those things here.

1) Crepe myrtle trees. They are everywhere and they are beautiful!

And some of them are really, really tall.

2) This place. No words, just love it.

3) This church always had the best marquis quotes. Looks like they still do!

4) Rush's chocolate milkshakes

5) The Old Studebaker Building

6) Carolina Gamecocks mailboxes, flags, etc. I bleed garnet and black. Go Cocks!!

7) "The river"

8) The yellow house on Boulware Rd. I would have gotten a better picture, but I didn't want to pull over along Highway 34. But if you are from here, you know what I'm talking about.

9) They don't have garage sales around here. They are called Yard Sales.

10) Most people also still "take the trash off".

11) San Jose Ristorante Mexicano. Oh, how I miss you when I am in Oklahoma! Nothing compares to you...

12) Windchimes and ceiling fans on the porch/carport

13) Tall pines lining the road

And last, but DEFINITELY not least...

14) Driving around the railroad gates when they are down.

The trains park so close to the crossing that the gates are down all the time without a moving train anywhere near by.

Of course, that means you DO have to look and listen before crossing the tracks when the gate is down. We don't want you to get hit by a train, after all.

I may have only lived there for 9 years, but a part of my heart will ALWAYS be in Lugoff, South Carolina.
