Just Call Me Molly

It would seem that I have lately been bit by the sewing bug. This might not seem unusual unless you realize that I don't really like to sew. It all started last month when my sister Gwen asked me to make her an apron for her birthday. This is a picture of my work in progress. It was a reversable apron, with one side being the big checks, and the other having a pocket, red belt, and solid black on top. It took me all day to make it, but I was very proud of the finished product. And since Gwen is one of those people that wears a lot of earthy tones (and yes, they do look good on her!) I wanted to pick something that she wouldn't normally wear and add a little flair to her life! Daring, I know... and though you can't see it, the fabric pattern is a bunch of black and white cats, and Gwen is one of the biggest, cheesiest cat lovers I know. They're her "babies". She's the kind of person that tries to sneak the cat into the bed with her against her husband's wishes. This fabric pattern just screamed her name.

Well, then I decided to go back to the fabric store and pick up some random fabrics to do an apron for my sister Dorothy. We'll say this was her LATE birthday present so the rest of my family doesn't feel bad. Well, Dorothy has unique taste. She likes things that clash. She likes things that are ugly individually, and then they somehow make a harmonious whole. Or, at least they do make a whole though it's probably not harmonious. So I'm walking around the fabric store looking for the absolute ugliest fabrics I can find. I wish you could see some of these up close. They are some zingers. I got a headache just sewing all the pieces together for the front - no lie. I was also using lime green thread. And because sewing the straps takes too dang long I bought the cotton straps and sewed them on. Took much less time and I was in a much better mood when I finished. And oddly enough, I really like the finished look. In fact, I only used half the fabric I bought... maybe I should make another for me! Except that I really don't like to sew...

How's this?

Much better. I had to highlight to read, but I wasn't going to say anything (didn't want to seem old).

In your hate to sew moments (LOL) I think you could probably sell these little beauties...really! Have you ever checked out Etsy?
I love both of your projects!

Wonderful....it is sometimes nice to be recognized as most ancient of the family...the one who saw the first dirt formed...etc...

Love,

Dad

I love them both and, like Kristi, my birthday is coming up (hint, hint). When y'all come home in July, remind me and we will go thru my scrap material.

Looks like you'll be needing a sewing machine for Valentines day or your birthday or sometime soon! Your orders seem to be adding up real quick like!

Mom, you're birthday is in July! How's that "coming up soon"?? However, I'll add you to my list of "to do" aprons...

Maybe I should check out this Etsy thing, Connie! Whatever it is... aprons are about all I can do, though.

My bday is first and you won't even have to ship it, just send it home with mom when she leaves your house. I'm full of good ideas, you think? I actually have been looking for an apron b/c the one that we have is for Mike and he's just a tad bigger than me :-)
