Baking Day

Early in July we had a family meeting.  We decided that we'd really love to go to South Carolina for Thanksgiving.  We haven't been there for a holiday since we moved, but we never seem to have the extra money in our budget.  So, we told the kids that if they would work and earn the money, we could go.

We made a list of the things our family could do, yet nothing seemed to really click until we got the idea of a monthly bake sale.  And so, 10 days ago we had our first one.  We decided to bake from Thursday to Saturday, and these pictures are from Thursday, Day #1.

Before we got started, the kids gathered for a picture.  Maddox kept sticking his tongue out, so finally the kids all stuck their tongues out, too.

The girls' favorite thing to make by far were the strawberry-rhubarb crumbles.  They could get their hands into the crumb topping and go to town!  (Don't worry folks, I made sure they washed their hands first!)

Some people just can't be serious.  Ever.  But we love our little Kelsey-bug!

See what I mean?  This is their first finished crumble!  (Notice the crossed eyes?)

A picture of the "goods" before delivery that evening.

And let this picture serve as proof that my meringues started out gorgeous.  By the time they were delivered in over 100+ heat, however, they had separated and started dripping.  Stinkers.  Despite the fact that they still tasted fabulous, I have to say that I'm thinking we should go for the Lemon Cream Pie next time...
